All costumes are hand painted in Cape Town, South Africa. All paint pigment is brought in from Germany and then produced locally in house in Cape Town. This process has been tried and tested in Germany.
Designs are sketched by fashion designer: Jade Ashleigh then printed onto screens for placement prints. Each costume is then hand painted into one by one; besides the bamboo which is solely done free hand and no two pieces will be exact the same making each costume one of a kind. Painters are asked to paint as they feel so colours may vary slightly.
Paint is mixed with binding agents specifically manufactured to work with poly fabrics so there is great adhesion of the dyes. This gives the paint its elasticity to work on nylon. Each artwork is then heat set in a curing process of 140 degrees to set the pigment to the fabric; this continues to cure for up to 30days after this process and makes the paint permanent on the fabric. This has been viciously tried and tested.
